Stress is a part of life, and it can even be helpful in some instances, but when it starts to feel like an unbearable weight you cannot put down it start to have a negative effect on how we cope and manage with the challenges we are faced with. There is a trend in our society to work to the point of burnout, ignoring our feelings of stress and fatigue and to power through. High levels of stress are increasingly becoming the norm, and we are able to see the effects of that. Chronic stress not only has a negative impact on mental health, it can also be extremely detrimental to your physical health as well. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association 1 in 5 Canadian will be diagnosed with a mental health disorder in their lifetime. Our physical health is not looking much better, with heart disease and obesity rates increasing exponentially with every passing year. Learning how to work through stressful periods can help you to become more productive and can improve your overall well-being. This workshop will explore triggers for stress and way to manage them, how to be proactive during stressful situation, coping skills for managing stress, and self-care practices to minimize the negative impacts high stress levels.
